About Lavinia
Body language expert Lavinia Plonka has helped people improve their movement, behavior, relationships and careers for over 40 years. Her unique expertise connects the dots among posture/movement, emotions and the mind. Lavinia’s training and professional career have included theater, dance, yoga and the martial arts. She has taught The Feldenkrais Method® for 30 years and is also an Assistant Trainer. Lavinia is a level CL4 teacher of the Alba Method and an Emotional Body Instructor. She was an artist in residence for the Guggenheim Museum and movement consultant for theater and television companies around the world, from the Irish National Folk Theater to Nickelodeon. A faculty member of the Shift Network, Lavinia’s popular workshops explore the intersection between movement, emotions and the mind. She is currently the director of Asheville Movement Center in Asheville, NC. Lavinia’s writing includes several books and audio programs.


Day 1: Flexible Bodies, Flexible Brains

While aging is inevitable, we can maintain vitality and flexibility much longer when we include mindful movement in our lives. Awareness Through Movement® lessons have been shown to improve balance, reduce fear of falling and enhance quality of life. Current research suggests that movement is the key to maintaining brain health. Becoming aware of how you move will exponentially increase that ability!

Event 1 - Simple Strategies for Better Living - 90 minutes

This workshop is open to everyone, lessons will be taught in standing and seated in chairs. The lessons will address how to improve posture and eyesight and reduce tension in shoulders and neck.

Join Flow University, and master movement educator Lavinia Plonka for an entertaining and illuminating evening where you will get reacquainted with your innate ability to learn to move better, feel better and live the life you want. 

Event 2 - I’ve Got Your Back - 90 minutes

Everyone can benefit from a more flexible, resilient spine. Whether you are a chair jockey or a yogi, you will discover that these subtle, sophisticated movement sequences can help you move better, feel better and think better. This portion of the class is taught lying on the floor. While mats will be provided, you are also invited to bring your own.

Your back is a big territory extending from your neck to the bottom of your pelvis. You stand with your back slightly bent, then twist and swing as powerfully as you can. What could possibly go wrong? In this workshop we will explore seated and standing strategies for preparing your back before playing and relieving your back after playing, focusing on how you rotate your spine.

Event 4 -You’ve Got the Power! - 90 minutes

Where does the power of your swing come from? This 90 minute workshop will take you down to the floor with lessons that can strengthen your core and help you move more effectively from your center of gravity. While mats will be provided, you are also invited to bring your own.
